Media reports state that outraged North West residents have been threatening Chinese people operating businesses.

This came about after a 22-year-old man was allegedly attacked by two Chinese people for shoplifting from one of their shops.

The man who is now in hospital was charged with theft. He will make a court appearance once discharged from hospital.

The Chinese men appeared in court last week on charges of intent to do grievous bodily harm and were released on a warning to reappear before court on January 21.

Meanwhile, Acting public safety MEC Magome Masike said, "They condemn alleged xenophobic attacks on Chinese businessmen by residents of Madibogo village in the North West province are an exaggeration of a moderately tense situation."
