According to the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the floods have so far caused damage estimated at R356 million.
Regarding agriculture, damages are estimated at more than R2 billion.
A number of farmers in the Free State, Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal are said to be on the verge of giving up.
Government however has pledged to come to the rescue of farmers whose crops and infrastructure have been damaged.
It cannot provide financial assistance, but will help with seed, fertilizer and infrastructure such as canals and pipelines.
