Former President Nelson Mandela has been discharged from the Milpark Hospital and he has been taken to his home in Houghton in Johannesburg.
He recently suffered from an acute respiratory infection but responded well to treatment.
South African Surgeon-General Vijay Ramlakan confirmed in a press conference this afternoon, that former president Nelson Mandela has undergone routine tests, in accordance with his health history and age.
Mandela will be receiving home based care and will be monitored closely by medical staff.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation received over 10-thousand messages of support from all corners of the world in the past few days.
South African Surgeon-General Vijay Ramlakan and Acting President Kgalema Motlanthe appealed for Mandela’s privacy to be respected.
