Opposition parties have called on the National Youth Development Agency to publicly account for the funds used for the World Youth Festival.
The Democratic Alliance youth leader, Makashule Gana, says, “The Youth Agency has no idea what it is supposed to be doing for young South Africans.”
Gana says, “The agency does not know how to use scarce budgetary resources productively to create real opportunities and develop skills.”
Meanwhile the Youth Foundation of the African Christian Democratic Party national youth chairman, Lusani Mulaudzi, says this culture of excessive spending on entertainment is a disturbing trend in a country with such high levels of poverty.
