Two people were killed about five kilometres outside Mthatha in the Eastern Cape last night.
Police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela, says a man offered a lift to two women who were on their way to a church event.
While the three were in the car, the driver was having a suspicious conversation on his phone.
As the car slowed to let the women out, an unknown man started shooting at them.
The driver and one of the women were shot dead.
Fatyela says the woman who survived is very traumatised.
A murder case has been opened.
