Police believe they have cracked a syndicate that has stolen over R40 million worth of diesel from mines across Mpumalanga in the past year.
Five men appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate's court this week for an initial charge of armed robbery.
These charges relate to the theft of 7000 litres of diesel from Butterfly mine in Ogies in December last year.
The police's Leonard Hlathi says an additional 23 charges will be brought against the men when they make their next court appearance next month.
The 23 other charges relate to the theft of bowsers, which are two-wheeler containers filled with thousands of litres of diesel.
