The sentencing of Thozamile Taki has been welcomed by many across the country.
Thozamile Taki was convicted of killing 13 women and dumping their bodies in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape.
The Durban High Court has sentenced Taki to life imprisonment for each of the 13 murders and 16 years for each of the 13 counts of robbery.
The Ministry for Women, Children and People with Disabilities released a statement saying “We commend the investigating team and prosecutors for the sterling work done to ensure successful conviction in this case and we urge them to continue with this great work on other cases of violence against women”.
The Congress of South African Trade Union in Kwa-Zulu Natal also released a statement saying “As COASTU we are very much encouraged by this sentence to continue with our 365 days campaign of no violence against women and children. We thank our members, the leadership of the Alliance and the ANCWL. We extend our words of comfort to the families of the victims but do hope that justice has been done, though their loved ones will never return”.
