The National Sea Rescue Institute at Mykonos on the Cape West Coast has assisted police in recovering the bodies of a 33-year-old man and a 13-year-old girl from the Berg River on a farm near Hopefield.
The girl allegedly got into trouble while swimming in the river and the man dived in to save her but got into difficulties himself.
The river was calm and flowing very slowly at the time of the incident.
The victims, who lived in the area, were not related.
Their names have not yet been released.
