Government has promised to create at least 120 000 jobs this year through a massive road maintenance programme.
The focus will be on fixing secondary roads and repairing potholes across the country.
Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele says more than R22 billion have been set aside for the project over the medium term.
This year, R6.4 billion has already been made available.
Ndebele adds that 70 00 of the jobs will be permanent positions.
