A man has been arrested in Makhaza, Khayelitsha for being in possession of 110 abalone with a street value of approximately R10 000, as well as one star fish in his possession.
Metro Police Deputy Chief Yolanda Faro says officers were conducting routine patrols in the area when they noticed suspicious looking grey BMW driving in front of them.
“The officers followed the vehicle and when the driver noticed that he was being followed, he jumped out of the vehicle and disappeared between the shacks. When the officers searched the vehicle they found the abalone, as well as one star fish, in the car,” said Faro.
The driver later returned to his vehicle and was arrested and charged for the possession and transportation of abalone.
