A teenage boy was arrested in Kimberley yesterday after plotting his own kidnapping.
Police spokesperson, Cherelle Ehlers, says the 17-year-old boy left his home in Riviera on Wednesday.
The next day his guardian received an SMS saying he had been kidnapped.
The SMS that was apparently sent from the teenager's phone said the kidnappers were demanding a ransom of R1 850 and it included a bank account number.
Ehlers says the police waited at the bank to arrest the kidnappers when the boy came to withdraw the money himself.
The boy is expected to appear in court soon.
