The SA Clothing and Textile Workers’ Union say they are disappointed by the Competition Commission’s unconditional approval of a merger between American retail giant, Walmart, and local wholesaler, Massmart.
This after the Commission rejected a submission by Sactwu that the acquisition was not in the public interest.
Sactwu’s Ettiene Vlok believes that Walmart negatively impact employment conditions at Massmart.
South African labour organisations have been pushing to stop the company’s entry into South Africa.
