A 33 year old man has been arrested in Kraaifontein for being in possession of drugs to the street value of R20 000.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerhard Niemand says Kraaifontein SAPS were busy patrolling the N1 and at the Engen Garage on the N1 direction Cape Town when they saw a man sitting at an outside table, eating something looking like beetroot leaves out of a small blue bucket.

“With closer inspection the SAPS members found that the 33 year old man was busy eating Khat. The man was waiting for somebody to come and fetch him and the two boxes.

He was already waiting more than 24 hours and he used the plants to suppress the hunger pains. Police then discovered 237 bunches of Khat inside the boxes that he had with him,” said Niemand.
