The legal team representing Cwele and her co-accused Frank Nabolisa say they will appeal their convictions.
The judge said he had considered the fact that the accused were first offenders and that they had good prospects of being rehabilitated.
The Democratic Alliance says it now awaits a response from Minister of State Security, Siyabonga Cwele, after his wife’s conviction.
Sheryl Cwele was sentenced to 12-years imprisonment by the Pietermaritzburg High Court for drug trafficking.
DA leader Helen Zille says they are now waiting to hear what the minister is going to say.
