The Chamber of Mines has expressed surprise at the government's decision to appoint Zola Tsotsi as the new chairperson of Eskom.

The chamber says it is deeply concerned that the government was so keen to remove Eskom's current chair Mpho Makwana and Transnet chairperson Mafika Mkwanazi.

The National Union of Mineworkers is also upset about the restructuring at Eskom, without it being consulted.

General secretary Frans Baleni says they have always said nothing should be done about them, without them, and they are now drawing the line.
