Another 49 306 jobs were lost last month making it the fourth consecutive monthly decline.
The Adcorp Employment Index, released today, also found that only government created jobs.
While overall employment declined by 2.1% in August, employment by government rose by a notable 6.2%.
Adcorp’s Loane Sharp says one of the prime reasons for the nation's dismal employment picture is that government is crowding out private sector participation in the economy.
Sharp says the production sector was the hardest hit.
