The Independent Complaints Directorate has been explaining a lease of their offices to parliament’s portfolio committee for police today.
The ICD acquired new offices in 2006 with the help of businessman Roux Shabangu, who was also implicated in the controversial lease scandal that led to the suspension of Police Commissioner Bheki Cele.
ICD head Fancios Beukman explained in great detail how the entire process of the lease agreement was handled by the Department of Public Works.
Chairperson for the committee Sindy Chikunga described the agreement as worrying and questioned how the rental bill could have increased from just over R4-million to R15-million in one year.
