Mineral Resources Minister Susan Shabangu has warned the mining industry not to put the lives of workers at risk for the sake of making a profit.
Shabangu was speaking at the Mine Health and Safety Council Summit in Johannesburg,
She said she could not understand how mining companies that make billions in profit fail to buy the latest available and proven ground movement monitoring and detection equipment.
The minister wants to see a drastic improvement in mines’ safety records.
