Cape Town police captain will remain behind bars for at least a week while investigations continue into accusations that she had sold unlicensed ammunition while on stress leave.
The Hawks member Esmerald Bailey appeared in the Cape Town District Court yesterday on suspicion that she had also sold police uniforms.
She and her co-accused Waleed Hendricks will be back in court on the 19th of this month. Bailey has been on sick leave for three years.
Hawks spokesman McIntosh Polela said she was arrested at her home in Kensington on Friday.
Undercover officers allegedly bought ammunition from Bailey's co-accused, Wallied Hendricks, for R4000 in a city parking ground.
"He was arrested immediately after the exchange and he then led officers to her house," said Polela.
