Cape Town firefighters will hopefully respond to fires faster thanks to the reintroduction of smoke and fire detection cameras.
The system was used until three years ago until it was stopped.
Mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith explained why the six devices work.
He added that they can now respond to a fire much faster and even before anyone calls them.
Smith said that 250 000 camera’s are placed across the city at strategic places which will include V&A Waterfront, Cape Town International Airport and Muizenberg.
He said one of the systems biggest advantages is that it acts as a GPS device.
Smith explained that it can guide fire trucks through informal settlements and bush trails to the nearest road access point.
Firefighters will now get to their destinations faster.
