Credibility of criminologist questioned in killer taxi driver case

The credibility of a criminologist's report being used to argue in mitigation of sentence for taxi driver Jacob Humphreys was questioned in the Western Cape High Court yesterday.

Judge Robert Henney criticised Claire Wolff for not looking at his December 2011 judgement when compiling her sentencing report.

In his judgment he found Humphreys guilty of murder and attempted murder.

The judge said that Humphreys could not remember the events leading up to the crash so therefore his version was discounted.

Wolff read her report to the court and said that no definite conclusion could be reached as what could have made Humphreys commit the crimes.

She could only speculate using theories and interviews with the driver and his family, friends and neighbours.
