A fisherman aboard a Mossel Bay trawler was brought ashore this morning after he was hit by a hydraulic winch.
The National Sea Rescue Institute, NSRI Craig Lambinon said the man went into shock early this morning after injuring his head, arm and legs.
Lambinon said the man was seriously injured after the hydraulic winch which according to the skipper flew loose after the safety pin snapped, hitting the crewman on the head causing him to fall.
Rescue crew boarded the trawler and stabilised the man.
The trawler returned to Mossel Bay and the man was taken to hospital.
