Many organisations feel that the absence of an anti-trafficking law means that perpetrators operated without fear.
The groups welcomed a comment by Parliament’s Justice Committee to pass the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons Bill in April.
This law will criminalise human trafficking.
Previously human traffickers were only charged with kidnapping and other less serious crimes.
MP Yolanda Botha said miners are very vulnerable and they can be easily influenced, blackmailed and intimidated.
