The Human Sciences Research Council, Medical Research Council, UNICEF and the department of health embarked on a national survey.
The survey forms part of finding out what South Africans consumes what they do with their money and to determine the diseases South Africans have.
The reasoning behind the survey is so that the council can make informed decisions regarding the country.
On Monday the survey started in Kennilworth and Ravensmead and will move onto other areas.
