Today Metrorail defended its planned tariff hike.

The company said the hike comes with electricity costs and the increase in incidents of vandalism.

The tariffs will increase as of the first of April.Train fares will increase by an average of 24 percent.

Metrorail’s Eddie Chinnappen said that in their mission to turn away any fare increases they have compromised business .

He continued to say that they have received a subsidy from the government, but the maximum subsidy is not enough for them to fund their operations.
