MEC for Community Safety in the Western Cape, Dan Plato has requested that Western Cape Police Commissioner General Arno Lamoer intervene and remove all firearms of police officers who failed the firearms proficiency test, but they are still on active duty.

This comes after information released in a draft performance audit was published over the weekend.

Plato explained that acting National Police Chief Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has said that he would charge the responsible commander and would want to know from the provincial commissioner why the police officer was allowed to carry a firearm.

Plato will be asking Lamoer for a copy of the report to ensure that a situation like this never happens again in the Western Cape.
