The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, says local government is an essential part of foreign policy implementation.
Nkoana-Mashabane was speaking at a public lecture in East London in the Eastern Cape
She says speedy urbanisation across the world requires cities to play a more effective role in the implementation of foreign policy.
She further says cities can help strengthen people to people relations with other nations.
