Western Cape police say at least twenty three people have been killed in gang violence since the beginning of last month.

Seventeen of the murders happened in Hannover Park and Lavender Hill, where police say gang violence is rife.

Western Cape Community and Safety MEC Dan Plato visited the two areas today, to speak to the youth.

Plato says the youth in Cape Town needs to be given more attention because they are being recruited by the gangs. He says he already knows about 14-and-15-year-olds with three charges of attempted murder against them.
