250 000 claims not resolved by the Road Accident Fund

Just over 250 000 claims from the Road Accident Fund has either been unpaid or remain unresolved.

This has been revealed by Transport Minister Ben Martins on Friday.

Many of the victims in the cases have suffered injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents, are said to have not yet been paid because the fund in not being managed correctly.

DA Shadow Minister of Transport Ian Ollis said in the last year the Road Accident Fund’s debt has grown by R1, 6 billion.

He added that is money which is owed to victims and owing to various parties, hospitals and legal fees.
