A 31 year-old man was arrested on Wednesday in Uniondale.

The man was found in possession of illegal cigarettes estimated to be worth about R500 000-00.

The Southern Cape Police said that they were conducting a routine roadblock on the N9 between Willowmore and Uniondale when they stopped a Silver Isuzu bakkie with one occupant.

Police Spokesperson Bernadine Steyn said that upon searching the vehicle they found 60 boxes of illegal cigarettes.

Steyn also said that the man was found to be an Ethiopian international residing in Queenstown and he was on his way to George.
