President Jacob Zuma has announced a week of national mourning for the Marikana tragedy.
Flags will be lowered to half-mast from today and an official day for nationwide memorial services will be held on Thursday.
In another development, Minister in the Presidency Collins Chabane will lead an inter-ministerial committee following the killing of 44 people over the past 10 days at the Lonmin mine in North West.
Conflict resolution specialist in the mining industry Chris Jacobs said a lot needs to be to be able to move forward.
