The government ‘s plan to cut legal alcohol limits for drivers has come under the spotlight after Western Cape MEC Robin Carlise drafted a bill for the maximum blood-alcohol level to drop from 0.05 grams to 0.02 grams.

Spokesperson for the MEC Siphesihle Dube explained that there has been no real scientific link between lowering this figure and the amount of accidents occurring on the road.

He says the government has been encouraging drivers to drink responsibly.

Dube adds that the number of driver tested at road blocks for high levels of alcohol intake has become less in recent weeks.
