The Democratic Alliance has called on the Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega to suspend the police officers that are torturing the arrested mini workers.

The Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa received the report from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate that some of the 259 arrested miners are being beaten by police in different police stations.

IPID is investigating the claims and Mthethwa said that the claimants have been relocated and are receiving treatment.

DA Shadow Minister of police Dianne Kohler Barnard said Phiyega must institute precautionary suspension for all members who have been linked to this police brutality pending the outcome of the investigation.
