The Western Cape Education Department is increasing its financial support to poorer schools and learners in the province.

Poorer schools are classified as quintiles one and two, qualifying them for income support.

In the next financial year the allocation per learner will for the first time be increased to more than R1000.

Education MEC Donald Grant says it was important to equalise the subsidy to schools in poorer areas.
