The Medical Research Council today estimated that three children are murdered in South Africa on a daily basis.
A study released this week, shows that just over 1,000 children were killed in 2009 alone.
More than 44 percent of the murders recorded in the study were the result of child abuse and neglect.
The MRC’s Dr Shanaaz Mathews said while on paper South Africa’s policies on child protection are excellent, in practice they are having little effect.
