The City ofCape Town Safety and Security
Directorate plans to train at least 800 volunteer reservists in the next year.
This is in order to tackle its severe staff shortages and while fulfilling its mandate of making the city a safer place.
The volunteers will all undergo three months of basic training.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith explained that there will also be new Disaster Risk Management volunteers who will be trained in first aid and assisting in emergency situations such as accidents, fires and floods.
