Meanwhile the Congress of South African Trade Unions has welcomed the decision by the Prosecuting Authority to drop the murder charges against the 270 arrested Marikana mineworkers.

The organisation has said that the charges against these workers should have never been laid.

National Spokesperson for COSATU, Patrick Craven said that it seemed as though the arrests were just an attempt to intimidate workers.

He added that they hope the issue can be resolved as soon as possible in order to move forward from the tragic events that took place.
