The Gauteng education department is encouraging pupils who need to talk to someone about their problems to phone Lifeline.

This follows yesterday’s tragedy at Springs Girls High, where a grade 10 learner was discovered hanging in a room attached to the school hall long after school hours.

Department head Boy Ngobeni says an independent investigation will probe the circumstances surrounding the girl’s death.

A team of psychologists will visit the school today to assist learners and teachers affected by the tragedy.
