An arrest warrant was reportedly issued today for Julius Malema.

The former ANC Youth League President is expected to appear in court in Pretoria or Polokwane next week on charges of money laundering, corruption and fraud.

The Democratic Alliance Shadow Minister of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said the charges brought against Malema relate to the activities of his Ratanang Family Trust and its shareholding in On-Point Enginnering.

Kohler Barnard said the On-Point Engineering Company won a lot of lucrative contracts with the Limpopo government.

Kohler Barnard further said South Africans are sick and tired of politically connected individuals abusing public procurement to line their own pockets.

She added that in July 2011, she had requested the Public Protector to investigate tender irregularities involving Malema.

Meanwhile the Hawks would not confirm or deny the reports today that a warrant has been issued.

Hawks spokesperson McIntosh Polela said the Hawks do not issue warrants and can therefore not comment.
