Trade Union Uasa is optimistic that a peace pact will bring a peaceful end to the strike at Marikana that has been dragging on for four weeks.

The pact was signed between Uasa, Solidarity, the National Union of Mineworkers and Lonmin management.

The pact was signed last night.

Uasa chief operating officer Leon Grobler said they cannot continue to be held ransom by those not willing to negotiate.
