The presidency office has denied that there is an undeclared state of emergency in place to deal with labour problems in the mining sector.

The SA National Defence Force was deployed in the area on Saturday.

The SANDF Spokesperson Xolani Mabanga said the troops were deployed to support the police.

Last month 34 miners were killed in violent clashes with police.

The presidency Spokesperson Mac Maharaj said that there id no reason to declare a state of emergency at Marikana.
