South Africans have been urged to celebrate their heritage today, whether it is at an official gathering or around a braai.

The main event will take place in Upington in the Northern Cape.

In Gauteng, Premier Nomvula Mokonyane will lead the provincial celebrations at Maropeng near the Cradle for Humankind.

The proceedings will include the provincial indigenous games, such as skipping, and intonga, or stick fighting.
