Two students were arrested in Cape Town for perjury after they reported a lost cell phone as stolen in an armed robbery.

After police questioned the two students, aged 18 and 19, they admitted they had made up the robbery.

The Police’s Captian FC van Wyk said one of the teenagers opened the case at Table View police station on Monday, in order to claim insurance money.

The pair were expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
