The Human Settlements Department in the Western Cape says the provincial government has improved the housing demand database.

Western Cape Human Settlements MEC Bonginkosi Madikizela said steps have been taken to improve housing-related service delivery issues.

Department Spokesperson Bruce Oom said that the province has a backlog of about 500 000 units.

Oom also said a data improving programme that was initiated which had a cost of over R6 million has helped a lot.

He added that the goal of the initiative is to make sure that corruption is reduced and the houses are well maintained.
