Western Cape Health MEC Theunis Botha on Wednesday briefed the Parliament Health Portfolio Committee about the Western Cape Hospital
Botha said his department needs about R1 billion to clear maintenance backlogs at hospital.
MEC Spokesperson Helene Rossouw said that R800 million backlogs in maintenance were accumulated in 2009.
Rossouw added that it is to address this backlog that the MEC established the Western Cape Health Foundation, a vehicle that can bring in private sector money to address maintenance backlog.
