President Jacob Zuma has promised residents of Alexandra that he will act on their memorandum detailing their problems with housing and title deeds.

Hundreds of cheering people welcomed Zuma to the Alexandra stadium yesterday where one of South Africa’s oldest townships is celebrating its centenary.

Zuma planted a tree at the house where former president Nelson Mandela lived in 1940.

Some residents complained that they had been waiting for houses for decades.
