The South African Youth Council in the Western Cape says they are extremely distressed by the recent revelations by the Minister of Monitoring and Evaluation that the National Youth Development Agency spent almost a million rand on berets and close to half a million on t-shirts for the June 16 event held in Port Elizabeth.

SAYC Provincial Chairperson Thembinkosi Dyosophu said the Public Protector needs to investigate this excessive expenditure.

Dyosophu also said they want to find out how many people had attended the event, for them to have used such a lot of money.

He added that there is a suspicion that whenever the NYDA is called into account, they rent people by buying them airtime to speak good about their work.
