Premier of the North West Thandi Modise today said the arrests of more suspects and discovery of rifles used in rhino poaching is a breakthrough and that signals the determination of law enforcement agencies to clamp down on the scourge of rhino poaching.

Spokesperson Lesiba Kgwele said there is a need to clamp down on issuing of illegal hunting permits.

Kgwele said the department commends the Rhino Task Team for their work in arresting three suspects.

More than 500 rhino have been killed this year.
