WC schools in for cash incentives

The Western
Cape Education Department today said schools specialising in maths can now qualify
for rewards if they boost their in the subject or increase pupil retention
rate.
Spokesperson for MEC Donald Grant, Bronagh Casey said the incentives are aimed at increasing number of pupils doing maths and improving maths performance.
Casey said if the number of grade pupils entering Grade 10 and taking maths increased by six and ten pupils compared to the previous years grade ten enrolment they would receive R 5 000.
They could also receive a bonus of up to R20 000 for retaining maths.
