The five protestors who were
arrested at the farm workers strike on Tuesday appeared before the court in
Swellendam today.
The five people were arrested on a
charge of public violence.
Farmworkers in the Western
Cape are demanding a R150 living wage and
better living conditions on the farms.
They were all denied bail for the
charge of public violence and will have to remain in jail until January the 21st.
Mercia Andrews from the Mawubuye Land
Rights Movement said for these five people to be denied bail this was just a
way of trying to weaken the strike.
